Description

This book was written in late 1994 and first published in late 1996 by The Borgo Press (no longer in business, formerly in San Bernardino, CA). It focuses particularly on Data (the android played by Brent Spiner), and getting a second edition ready, I was faced with a dilemma: update it to include discussions of pertinent films and television series--the four Next Generation films, the end of the Star Wars trilogy, the film A.I., The X Files--or leave it as-is. I was also faced with the more serious dilemma of discussing events like the suicide of the Heaven's Gate cult, which took place within six months of the book's first publication, and which took the series to a place where it hadn't gone before, the cover of the National Enquirer. I decided the important thing about my pop culture study was its reflection of the feelings of a Star Trek fan in the early 90's and consequently altered very little of it.
