Fourteen years of trial have demonstrated the success of the experiment as a labor and time-saver in the daily assistance to readers. Generally, nothing less in extent than a ten octave-page article has been entered in the index. Dates following the name of a person are those of his birth and death. Roman numerals (excepting the lower-case v. For volume) signify a series, period or portion of a work. Volume and page numbers are separated by a colon.
