Author Biography:

Andrew Rippin is Professor of Islamic History and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He is author of Muslims, their religious beliefs and practices, about to appear in its third edition (London 2005), and The Qur'an and its interpretative tradition (Aldershot 2001). He is also the editor of several other books on the Qur'an and Islam.
