Description

Excerpt from Doing With Our Might What Our Hand Findeth to Do: A Sermon Preached in the Cathedral Church of Chichester, on Sunday, March 20, 1859 But we find from experience that this rule is not without its exceptions so that in the verse follow ing our text, the wise man saith, I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding. (eccles. Ix.) The rule is that the race is to the swift, and the battle to the strong; but it is not an invariable rule, because, in ways unknown and by the interposition of undiscoverable causes, God does from time to time interfere, and prevents the occurrence of the expected result.
