This box set is of the usual high quality standard expected of Dungeons and Dragons books. The booklets are printed in full colour on thick paper. There are quest cards (and lots of other cards), which give players something tangible to hold. These are great for young players who are getting into roleplaying games, which are played in “the mind” instead of on a board. Instead of one big quest, or three parts to a quest like the previous starter set, this Essentials box contains 14 quests, each being a different location near Phandelver on the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms. Each quest can be played in one to two hours, which is again great for young players. Some quests can be completed by roleplaying instead of combat, so it's not all battle. Recommended for any group that is new to D&D, and for young players.

If you wanna get into DnD, or want to get someone into it, this is probably one of the best things to get. It is far better than the essentials kit that I started out with, coming with handouts, and an actual full set of dice. They've added so much more, so it being slightly more expensive is worth it.
Great beginner box set, first time DM's and Players alike will be able to enjoy this box set. A few helpful things though, buy the players handbook alongside this if you're truly serious, and a couple of sets of dice too. I've now been playing for two years, and DM for multiple groups of friends, this box set is a first step in a journey of limitless fun.
This is a specific mission/scenario set. Still good for getting setup, but for a specific scenario, not generic for the main game. Still good value though.
Comes with everything you need to get started, including an adventure. The extended dice set is super useful too once you're in game
