Just waiting for the perfect time for all the friends to come around and have a crack at it. Comes in a board game type of box with EVERYTHING you need. Sure the books aren't hardback but they're still great and really detailed. After all, this is a set for trying out the game to see whether you like it rather than spending hundreds of dollars on the real thing and finding out it may not be your thing.

The layout, font, and illustrations are very pleasing to look at. It is a pleasure to read.
Everything a new player needs to run/play a game is in here.$40 bucks is a steal IMO . The editing in the book is top notch and the layout is easy to read and understand.
I've played D&D on and off since 1982. Whilst the new rules are a vast improvement over 4th edition from my old school perspective, I'm not going to comment on those aspects of the product here.
The reason I have given a one star rating is the physical quality of this product, or should I say “lack thereof.”. The rule books and included module are printed on thin glossy paper and have no covers. The box, whose size promised much, contains little but air and cardboard filler. The included dice are nothing to write home about either.
Seriously Wizards of the Coast- This is the best you could do- Hardly a great advertisement for your new product line.
A real disappointment. I expected better.
If you're reading this you're probably thinking that you want to start playing drunk Dungeons and Dragons, and you can do that with this kit. Buy this and read the campaign throughly because you will need to at least be a decent dungeon master. You can somewhat wing it as a dungeon master but you need to know the way around the campaign and the game mechanics. You need to be able to improvise on the fly, and you can't do that So much as the dungeon master if you don't know the mechanics and campaign. They have made this alot easier to grasp in edition 5. Seriously, just grab this and jump in, be the dungeon master, scrub up, post on Facebook “who wants to eat pizza, drink and play d&d” and curious people will say yes. Loads of fun. Why not-
Good introduction to the Dungeon and Dragons 5th edition system. Good value for money. Ideal for those new to role playing games but also suitable for the more experienced as it contains an excellent module.
I bought this for my daughter, to introduce her to the world of D&D. For the price, it's a great set and has everything you need to get started. The books are decent quality, although not hardcover, with easy-to-understand text and some great illustrations
As someone who is new to DnD and DMing this seems to have plenty of content for a starter set and all for a reasonable price. Thanks Mighty Ape!
Ignore those other guys. Yes, the box has a cardboard filler, but the box is also the perfect size to store the Hardback books in. Yes, the books are glossy paper, but it's high quality glossy paper. And if it was hardback, the cost would be much higher. And the dice are some of the best I've seen personally. Considering that they can cost upwards of $10 for a single set…
Finally, if you buy something in addition to this product, I'd recommend the Players Handbook, which contains the full rules. Not all are necesarry, but it's nice to have. And you can build your own characters. Not necesarry, but as I say, nice to have.
Worth the price just for the included adventure.
Amazing game but not for the novice boardgamer XD so fun with friends
Had a lot of fun with my friends playing this would recomend. Lots of the resources are available online but the dice and pre-made adventure were great!
Having bought Wizards of the Coast's previous D&D Starter Set and being worried at its quality compared to their biggest rival I naively assumed they'd up their game. Boy was I wrong! Really dissapointed with the content and quality. The books are flimsy, the dice are crap and there's no maps or counters. Buyer beware.
Very good value for money starting adventure with a wide ranging and engaging plot. Nice dice too.
It is what it says it is. Good for beginners and has pre-made characters for a quick starting game. The story is also quite cool and can be a challenge at times. Overall, a pretty good purchase.
