Learn new stitches A sampler afghan is a great way to learn new stitches and to build your skill level as a knitter. This sampler contains 20 unique 12-inch squares. 15 of the blocks are rated as easy, one block is beginner level and three blocks are intermediate level. Instructions are given in both words and also in chart form, so you can use the form with which you are more comfortable. Since all the blocks are 12-inch squares, you can use them to create the perfect size spa cloths to give as gifts or you can create your own throw or afghan, mixing and matching the blocks that you prefer.

When Lisa Carnahan was in her 20s, she started knitting for her three children and hasn't put her needles down since. Her patterns have appeared in the collections of Classic Elite, Fiber Trends, Tahki Stacy Charles and others, and have been published in several magazines. In 1991, she launched her own business, Lisa Knits, a line of knitwear patterns that are available in yarn shops across the country. The mother of three grown children, Lisa resides in Latrobe, PA with her husband.
