The book description outlines the plot very well, so no point in repeating that again here. This book pulls together the previous two in the series (Time's Eye and Sunstorm) very nicely. The story takes place in a number of locations throughout the solar system – the travel between and technology used in these places is based on good sound science as we've come to expect from Arthur C. Clarke.
The suspense in this book comes long and slow – it's not too hard to put down, but it's sure easy to pick up again to find out how on earth mankind can defeat a weapon they barely understand. The final solution to this quandry felt a little weak to me, and I was left wanting more; it felt like book four should be around and I'm disappointed that it's not – unless Stephen Baxter is intending going it alone.
I would certainly give this book an excellent rating but for the unfinished feel it gave me. Nevertheless I'd certainly recommend to all who like their science realistic and anyone else who likes a good read for that matter.
