Freaks of Nature is a work of fantastical speculative fiction which imagines a society in which a new subspecies of humanity has emerged. With many of the physical features of and the consciousness and communication abilities of humans, these "freaks" also have the traits of other animals. Feared and rejected by the rest of society, a small found family finds themselves chased out of their home, an idyllic retreat they had carved out for themselves away from the rest of the world. On the run and in increasing danger, they discover unexpected threats and secrets about their very natures. Freaks of Nature is dark tale of prejudice and ignorance preying on the bonds of family, with elements in the traditions of Grimm's fairy tales, The Island of Dr. Moreau, and Sweet Tooth. Freaks of Nature is a collaborative novel written by students in the Honors Literature II class of Argenta-Oreana High School.
