Description

Deforestation is a complex phenomenon as there is little agreement about the components and the processes involved in it. In Liberia and most of tropical african countries, there is a lack of reliable and consistent statistics on the rate and extent of forest cover, condition and its changes over time. Africa is suffering from deforestation twice the rate of the world. In view of the foregoing, giving the problems (deforestation) plaguing the forestry sector in Liberia, this study focuses to establish the occurrence of deforestation, measure the rate and extent of deforestation and examine the causes of deforestation in the region. To carry out the above, judicious use of geo-informatics techniques were utilized.
