Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas previews

“The best PS2 game ever?” Thats the opening line on a IGN review posted just before GTA:SA came out, and from my point of veiw, that is one very ture statement. Its fantastic end of story.

I have followed the GTA series from day one. I can still remember playing the first GTA in demo form and thinking how great it was. Sure its graphics were terrible, the story line was average, and the missions were limited, but it was a the begining of something amazing and as ttime went on and technology got better so has the game.

From my point of view, this is the best playstation 2 game ever. If your a die hard Grand Theft Auto fan like me, you'll love and if you a GTA newbie you'll love it too.

Well done Rockstar, well done!!

GTA San andreas is easily the best game out on PS2 at the moment if not the whole world. The game is huge the story and the state (yes I said state) of San andreas. It took me 30 hours to finish the story and I was only like 75 percent done. There is also so many other little things you can do. Car mods are fun. You also have to keep in shape and full. There are problems with this game, although minor. Things like the frame rate can get a bit sluggish and there are a lot of glitches I have seen. That is about the only problem I have seen.

gta san andreas is the best game to date on the playstion 2, if you love the violence in games you love this one. the game play is so cool with the new two player mode in the game makes it fun when playing the pool table in the pub or taking the streets with a friend. so if you don't have it get a copy soon.

GTA: SA is the reason I sold my Xbox to buy a PS2, 6 months before the game was due to be released. Now that I have it I am glad I did.

For a start the game is HUGE! it will give you hours and hours of GTA goodness. You can pretty much do anything in the three cities of the state San Andreas.

The graphics in my opinion are slightly improoved but other people have different opinions on the graphics. But GTA is not about graphics, the gameplay is so fine tuned and solid, that graphics is mearly a bonus. The rich 3D world of buildings, highways, bridges, hills, people and vehicles almost makes the game too good to be true. The game is full of life and the atmosphere is great.

I just keep wondering how the hell they fit this onto 1 DVD for such an amazing game?

This game is an icon to the PS2 and should not be overlooked.

Rockstar has done it again, this time they steped up alot more notches than usual. Well done Rockstar, This game proves that they are fine artists in making games.

Having just received GTA San Andreas yesterday in the mail, I can honestly say that it really is a brilliant addition to the GTA family! It really is worth all the hype! The gameplay is similar to the first 2 games, but the scale is so much larger (thank god for the map!!)

It's great to be able to customise C.J. (your character) with afro's and tatts, along with clotheslike cowboy boots and a hat.

Another great addition is the ability to swim. This ensures that when you drive your souped-up pimpmobile off the bridge (like we all do), you can just get out and swim back to shore. Man, you can even swim to the other islands!

Cops now have motorbikes, but as well as stealing these, you also have access to a diverse range of vehicles from BMX's to tractors, with so much more in between!

There's so much to this game, you're likely to NEVER STOP PLAYING! Your PS2 will give up before you!

Unlike all you other guys that have reviewed this game, I have actually played it. The map is absolutely enormous, at least 3 to 5 times bigger than Vice City. Missions are really cool and gangsta. Customising CJ's clothes, hair, tattoos is also a cool feature but the best thing is customising vehicles and loading them up with NOS (they go bloody fast). This game will take a very, very long time to complete and has everlasting replay value. Highly recommended!

Yes, it's finally here, Merry Christmas everyone, well thats what it feels like to me. GTA San Andreas was a nicely anticipated game and really worth the lesser wait in my wallet.

Do without the gel this week guys and save that money towards your copy of San Andreas, thats how much I love this game and i'm not usually one to use emotive language in promoting a game, but I think this one deserves it.

knowing rockstar this game will be awasome i just really hope the whole food thing dosent wreck the rest of what should be the best game of all time on the ps2 it would be a shame if u are worring about eating through out the whole game but beeing able to rob people in there own home will make up for it also there is going to be a feature where u can go to a tatt shop and get any tatt u want now thats going to rock !!!!!! and now u can swim 2 so now no drowing if u get chased buy the cops drive your car of a bridge and swim for it there are so many things comming out about this game im sure there is heaps more to come carnt wait 2 see what else they are goin 2 do

I've love the GTA series so far, but reading all your reviews… all that annoys me is that every single comment in your review is the hype and anticipation around the game instead of how the game actually plays. A more helpful review would be one from someone has actually played the game, not saying you guys don't know anything about it.

Otherwise, can't wait to get a copy!

Although there are only 3 official screenshots for San Andreas so far, It looks like it's going to turn out to be a very good game following in its brothers' footsteps (GTA III and Vice City).

GTA San Andreas will have some rival competition with the release of Halo 2 on Xbox this November, but if it is anything like the other GTAs it will certainly make the grade. So far, Rockstar games have kept most of the game under raps but I have read on the Internet that there will be better weapons, better vehicles, better woman and a better city.

San Andreas is going to be the best game ever out on PS2, i have not been this excited about a game before. Who would of thought a game on ps2 could be so life like?

When Carl Johnson (CJ) returns to his home town he discovers it in ruins, with his mother murdered and his friends and family fallen apart. To top it all off he is framed by a couple of corrupt cops for homicide. This causes CJ to embark upon a journey across San Andreas to take back the streets and save his family.

Welcome to GTA: San Andreas, the latest and greatest in the GTA franchise. In this installment you play the role of CJ on his journey of redemption. You will be traveling through three cities in San Andreas, each the size of Vice City in the previous GTA title with each being linked by a sizeable countryside.

If you thought there was plenty to do in the previous GTA think again, you can now:

• gamble in casinos
• get haircuts
• get fat/thin if you do not exercise and eat properly
• eat at restaurants
• swim
• modify vehicles

I have only scratched the surface of this huge new game. Any thoughts that Rockstar would rest on their laurels for this title have long since past. This game will be excellent. I would recommend a purchase if you enjoyed any of the previous GTA titles or enjoy an action packed adventure.

On a side note, I have heard rumour of possible multiplayer modes.

I loved the other gta games. So far the only bad thing about them I have found is that you cannot aim manually with the right analogue stick. I recently read in a PS2 magazine that in San Andreas you move with the left analogue stick and aim with the right. That and all the other improvements (mentioned on other reviews below) with make GTA San Andreas the best game ever.

They are doing some fantastic stuff with this new game. Apparently you can go into the casino's and play a variety of tables, interact rpg style with pedestrians, skills ratings for your player, physical fitness impacts how much you can steal, get tattoos and haircuts, travel between 3 Vice City sized cities and lots of new vehicles (I'm looking forward to driving the ride on lawnmower…).

My only concern is the size of the landscape. If the GTA series has a weakness it's having to travel across town to activate the next missions. Vice City added a nice option where a taxi will take you to the mission if you fail it, but it would be nice if there was a quick way to get to the mission activators especially with a game the size of San Andreas.

The other thing is playing a black man. The original GTA game would let you select from a variety of races, sexes and body types. The PC versions of these games let you skin your character so you could conceivably put your own image in the game. I would prefer playing as an organised crime boss than a hip-hopping gangsta simply because of the style of missions it involves. One of my favourite missions in GTA3 is where you pick up the mob bosses in the stretch limo. I just think picking up ‘ballas’ in my lowrider is not going to have the same game feel, but I'll wait and see.

It will be the best/biggest game of the year in my opinion. Halo 2 is to much anticipated in my opinion. GTA:SA will own all games. im worried about the load times because its not just 2 islands… an entire state..

anyways i seriously recommend pre ordering the Uncut version like i have, its a great deal and the best game!

…and looks amazing. Only just over a week to go and the anticipation is amazing, hell I'm even buying a new memory card to make sure I'm ready for D-Day :-)

This is going to be the best game for its time. No other game offers the open ended gameplay that the Grand Theft Auto franchise offers, where you can go around a city and do pretty much whatever you want, other games have tried to mimic it (cough cough Driv3r cough) but have failed miserably. Also, look out for the rumoured two player co-op games in San Andreas.

San Andreas is a must own game! Especially if you're into the G-funk era from the early 90s…

After readign all previews from all different sites… the amount of stuff included in this game would be to much to handle!

GTA San Andreas is one of the best games you can get. The features I am told are so amazing, I think many people agree that you will not believe them until you play it. All I can ask for is the original top-view camera. That camera was so good and kept it original in Grand Theft Auto 3!

Rockstar have got gold on their hands here, these games just get better and better. GTA San Andreas continues the beautiful mark its predessessors GTA 3 & GTA Vice City left on the gaming community with a game that is set to be the biggest game of 2004.

With a map so big its bordering on insane, the game covers an entire state, a STATE, not just a city like the last two stunners.

The AI of the game characters have been given an upgrade and now act as if they are real person and respond to how your character looks – If he is fat you will get verbally abused by everyone – including the women.

GTA san andreas brings also a much more realistic game play – you can get hair cuts, tattoo's and head to the gym to gain some muscles. You also are required to learn fight style's – 1 gym teaches boxing, 1 gym teaches kung fu and another dirty fighting (the old crotch shot)

the cars get dirty and have to be washed, highjacking is harder and sometimes requires a weapon to persude the owner to give it up.

The police AI is smarter and they seek out cover, the helicopters put the spot light on you and blind you in order for the ground forces to pick you off. The cops also drive motorbikes, like the “Chips” guys and shoot while driving.

4 person drive bys, home envasions, tatts, beach parties, a make out look out point, i think this game cant give much more than it looks like its giving. – well done Rockstar north, I salute you!

To any fan of the previous GTA games should love the next instalment; Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. So many new things added, and some of the best new things would be home invasions too swimming and turf wars. This is a recommended game for any gta even non gta fan to get!!

There is an ability to actually go to Beach parties also that im looking forward to the monster truck that can run down nearly anything, including trees i've heard. i've also heard there may be Lawnmower races and downhill bike races. and on a ‘hands-on’ that Gamespot had they said that it took roughly 40minutes for their ‘guide’ to get from Los Santos to Las Ventura using a variety of vehicles including car, motorbike, ATV and plane. also, the ability to swim won't help you too much when running from the law if you dont eat right and exercise because of the Stamina bar.

also, when stealing a car it is alot harder now then in previous games because you need to learn tequniques to steal cars just as u need to plan a robbery. and when using your fire-arm, Carl must ‘adjust’ to using that particular gun/weapon for you to become a good shot. oh yeah, and you can play basketball to keep fit. and when attacking rival gangs you can no longer run in and do the same thing over and over because of the advanced AI the rival gangs learn and dont allow you to use the same tactic twice because they recognise it and use it to their advantage. and they also have the ability to plan ambushes and stuff like they.

in conclusion, i believe this game will absolutly rock and i cant wait to play.

San Andreas is set to wow the gaming industry as the best crime simulator to date and with PS2 as the preferred format Sony can bask in Rockstar’s success. A big fan of the GTA series, i am confident that San Andreas will live up to the hype that its predecessors (GTA III and Vice City) have set. Rockstar have made a respectable name for themselves with the Grand Theft Auto brand and I’m sure San Andreas will truly be the “biggest PlayStation 2 game of 2004”.

By foot, by car, boat, train, subway, motorbikes, and now farming vehicles, Truck and trailer and BMX, yes BMX, the list goes on. Stop at a tat shop and show loyalty to the clan by getting the gang tattoo, steal a hotdog from the street corner or “borrow” the Indian’s taxi that’s stopped at the lights. GTA: San Andreas gives new meaning to customisation. Bulk up at the gym or binge-eat at one of several restaurants. When you’re done, top it off with a flat top from Reese the Barber. If this game is similar to the hype of Vice City (and it is) then it’s gonna be one hell of a game.
