The offices of both tradesmen were situated over their shops, and the bookseller lived on the first floor, the stationer on the second of the large house fronting the street. Metivier the nephew, more commission agent than merchant, and Barbet, more broker than book seller, respectively held these large warehouses to keep stationary bought in bulk from embarrassed manufacturers, and sets of books left as security for loans.
