Description

Vern Halverson fondly remembers his furrowed days of living and working on a farm as a teenager and young adult. Like the main characters in the old television show, Green Acres, Vern was raised in the big city for the first 14 years of life, and then his parents bought a farm in Western Oregon. All the family members were city-slickers, of course, and knew nothing of the nuances of rural living. Therefore, Vern openly shares his experiences while living on a farm and parallels the absurdity of those on Green Acres. Some of which began a few months prior to when the show was first aired on television in the fall of 1965. Vern's dry witticisms show us that when city folks attempt to cross the other side of the proverbial barbed-wire fence, they discover that they simply aren't cut out for farming. That makes for comedic reading in most parts of the book. That's not all, however. By reading about the zany events and characters in this book, the author unearths a gradual, but devoted connection with God, who eventually called Vern to a life of spiritual farming, like the Lord does with all Christians - that of sowing seeds to a "Stinking Willie" weed world. So, as you dig in and read, be prepared to be entertained with Vern's zany characters and insightful spiritual commentary in just about every chapter.
