Weeks have passed since the tumultuous events of A Rush of Wings, and Special Agent
Heather Wallace and vampire rock star Dante Baptiste are each coping in their own way.
In Seattle, Heather is determined to solve the mystery surrounding her mother's death -
and be a safe harbour for her troubled sister, Annie. In New Orleans, Dante has cut all
ties with his father Lucien, even as he still struggles to understand the elusive secrets
of his past. Lucien, for his part, continues to try to shield Dante's existence from the
fallen angels who rule Gehenna - but fears he may be losing the battle.

When Dante and his band Inferno come to Seattle on tour, he and Heather are drawn back
into each other's orbit like moths to flame. Dante offers Heather his help in solving the
long-cold case of her mother's murder, and they seem to be finding their way to a new
understanding. But unbeknownst to any of them, dangerous forces are plotting to use Dante
for their own ends. Forces connected to Dante's past. Forces with mysterious powers that
rival Dante's own supernatural abilities. And they'll stop at nothing until Dante is
theirs to control - or destroyed forever ...
