"The game that began a revolution"
3 stars"

This game signals the turning point of platform games. Jak and Daxter is at its heart just a good ole fashioned platformer, with all the elements youd come to expect. Theres plenty of jumping about and enough items to collect to fill a warehouse. The thing that makes this game so special is the sequel it spawned. Without a doubt Jak2 is one of the best games ever made.

Dont let the 3 stars I awarded to this game fool you, it is by no account a “bad” game. Its just that anyone with any platform experience will complete it in a day or two, and there is absolutely NO replay value. The graphics, as with all Naughty Dog games, are gorgeous.

The story of this game is quite simple. You play the hero, Jak, whose friend Daxter has met with an unfortunate accident resulting in him becoming an ottsel(half otter, half weasel). Jak and Daxter then go on an adventure to try and turn Daxter back to his normal self, while trying to foil the plans of evil brother and sister pair Gol and Maia (incidently for those of you reading this who have played Jak2 but not this game, it is probably wise to give it a rent, as even though Gol and Maia were never mentioned in the sequel, Ive heard from a reliable source that one of the big twists in the upcoming Jak3 is their return to the series).

So to sum up, this game is well worth a rent. Buy it if you are an enormous Jak fan and dont mind your games gathering dust. For parents, this game is perfect for your children, and is really one of the last child-friendly titles out there.
