Excerpt from Journal of the Society of Motion Picture Engineers, Vol. 33: July, 1939 Summary - Motion picture film will form an important source of programs for television broadcasting. Film projectors for this use are required to meet a number of conditions peculiar to television. Methods for projecting and utilizing motion picture film are outlined. A specific film projector and associated television channel are de scribed in some detail. In establishing a technic for producing films most suitable for television, equipment is needed to interpret the final results. Apparatus that will be used by broadcasting stations is described. A simpler system has been designed that may be useful for the specialized service of gauging the merit of films for television. This is described and its operation indicated. Some very preliminary observations are included on the characteristics of films that have given good results in experimental work and in field tests. The production and utilization Of motion picture film for television programs introduce many new problems. It is the purpose of this paper to review these problems and to describe methods and appara tus for the use of film in television.
