Description

If you have an invention or an idea for an invention and you think it's worth protecting -- then this book is for you. This book's purpose is threefold: (1) to introduce you to patent law; (2) help you decide if a patent is appropriate for your invention; and (3) get you ready to speak with a patent professional should you decide to pursue a patent. Our hope is that after you've read this book, you will be able to effectively communicate why you believe your invention is patentable. This book was written as a guide that will allow you to have an active role in the patent process. You will know your invention better than any patent professional and, if you also know the process, it will improve the effectiveness of your invention's protection. Working alongside your attorney or agent will undoubtedly also serve to lessen the number of billable hours required to adequately file an application.

Author Biography:

Ricardo A. Gonzalez is the Just Wanna Series Editor, comprised of Legal DIY resources for quilters, artists, and crafters. His background is both science, craft and the law. He earned his Masters in Biology from Mississippi College and his BA from the University of Texas at Arlington. He earned his J.D. from Tulane University Law School, where his focus was on both the science and art side of intellectual property law. He brought his scientific scrutiny to key research projects focused on libraries and copyright, and was one of the founders of the Just Wanna Quilt project, looking at the intersection of industry, invention, creativity, and community. He is dedicated to providing legal tools and resources to both inventors and artists. Dr. Elizabeth Townsend Gard is a Professor of Law in intellectual property at Tulane University Law School and a Lepage Faculty Fellow at the A.B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University. Elizabeth began researching the intersection of quilting and copyright, which turned into a podcast, with over 300 interviews of industry, famous quilters, inventors, lawyers, and a community, known as the Quilting Army.
