This volume is an extension of the subjects covered in the first edition. There are 5 sections each with 4 to 7 chapters. The 1st and 5th sections will present advances in techniques for study of mammalian lipids over the past 6-7 years since the 1st edition was assembled. The 2nd and 3rd section concerning analysis of plant lipids and signaling are novel and will describe methodology not available elsewhere. Of practical interest will be the chapter outlining approaches to modify lipid production. The 4th section that deals with the impact of bioactive lipids on receptor function will be complementary to the extensive knowledge of lipid-mediated signaling pathways. Eric Murphy is Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Therapeutics of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of North Dakota. He also serves as Executive Vice President for Research and Development and Chief Scientific Officer for Agragen, a pharmaceutical company based in Ohio. Mikhail Y. Golovko is also Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Therapeutics of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of North Dakota. Thad A. Rosenberger is Associate Professor in the Department of Basic Sciences of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of North Dakota
