Description

This is the first collection of stage ready Monologues by Donnie Laflamme and contains over 3 hours of material. Every big old city has one: a neighbourhood where the houses are tiny, almost touching each other, misshapen and crooked from the day they were built. This one sits by the Ottawa River; this one's called Mechanicsville. A place where you hear French and English coming out of kitchen windows on hot summer nights. Where you'd see labourers with dangling cigarettes laughing over a dirty joke down by the railway yards, the lumber mills, the foundries. Before bed, the kids get hugged by bloody knuckled papas, and tucked in by mamas thankful that the cheque didn't get cashed at the tavern. In Mechanicsville, if houses could talk, a few would slur through rotten teeth. The Mechanicsville Monologues are based on the lives and stories of people from the Mechanicsville and Hintonburg districts in Ottawa, Canada.

Author Biography:

Donnie Laflamme lives in the beloved Hintonburg district of Ottawa. He is the co-artistic director of Chamber Theatre Hintonburg, a professional theatre company that performs in local taverns. When he's not acting, directing, or writing, he spends his time fixing old houses, and his '48 Fleetline. He tries very hard not to get into scraps and is mostly successful.
