Metro 2033: The Last Refuge (Classics) reviews

Unfortunately this amazing game had no hype whatsoever. The storyline is GREAT, characters are OK, combat is thrilling but there are a few bad things about it. Firstly being stealthy in this game is like wearing a flashing pink strobe in a city center, people WILL notice you. Miss with one silent pistol shot and everyone knows where you are, even if they do drop for some reason the only effect the silencer seems to have is sound. It has a REALLY small replay value as depending on your choices you get a different ending etc. Anyway enough with the bad, Time for the good stuff.

If metro 2033 focuses on anything fully it would be atmosphere. The fact that they made the radioactive atmosphere a game play factor was amazing, but its not passive like Fallout 3. When you get to the surface or radiated tunnels you need to use your Gas Mask. While it is annoying that if the game swarms more than 12 howlers at you they rip through your mask (which only happens once or twice) it is good to see that they added it.

In the end it is a great adaption of a book by a Russian author, so I give it a 4.

By far in my top 5 purchases since joining Mighty Ape. Metro 2033 is one of the most thought out and well executed games I've played in a very long time. With in game details such as having to pump your air compressed sniper rifle from having to check the different pockets of fallen foes for Ammo. I'm am in much anticipation for the sequel later this year and have no doubt it will take my breath away. It is a must have for any Gamer.

Tense and atmospheric, solid story that sticks closley to the novel its based on, one of the major characters is the blackness allowing you to sink into the shadows to strike at your enemies or fear what other inhabitants are watching you from the dark corners of the metro. Lacks a multi player but makes up by being a gripping horror story

I laughed at dead space, I snored at silent hill. But this game has me crawling up the walls to get away from the mutants and the “dark ones”. The game looks good, its dark but not so dark that the game has to rely on jackinthebox greeblys to shock the player, the survival horror genre is blessed by this game and in my opinion a standard has been set, after Metro 2033, other “scary” games are no worse than the back of my fridge.

Alot of fun so far, can't see it going down hill at all, most satisfying!

Great story, good mix of horror story and game. Awesome value

This game is great all-round. It has an amazing campaign storyline putting you in post-apocalyptic Russia as you fight your way through hordes of mutants as well as some Soviets and Nazis. This game is thoroughly enjoyable and very engaging, the lack of a HUD actually works very well for this game. There are some minor graphic glitches and it can sometimes feel as though the bullets are hitting nothing, but I would definitely recommend this game.

Also, this game cannot be compared to Fallout 3 as it is not an RPG but a survival horror game and both of these games are great in their separate ways.

As always the Mighty Ape team were very helpful and being just $20.00 when I bought it, I got a great deal.

The storyline for this game is one of a kind. No other game has a storyline like this. The gameplay is real action packed as well as a touch of horror. Ive jumped a few times playing this haha. Overall a great game.

Like the Fallout 3 stories, I love the post nuclear apocalypse settings. So obviously I went to try this game. At first I really liked it, the story seemed decent. After a couple of hours I found myself on the edge of quitting due to eye strain and frustration of wanting more. But, I hung in there just incase the game got better soon. It didnt.

This game is terribly linear. There is a path set for you and you follow it. Combat is awful. The setting is too dark. You have a torch, you eventually get night vision but even with all this my eyes felt like they were literally bleeding after an hour. I knew this would never be like Fallout 3 as that game was far too awesome to compare to anything but this came nowhere close except for story setting.

I finished the game and felt ripped off. All in all its about 10 or so hours long with no replayability at all. I wouldnt even suggest hiring it as you may wish you had spent that money on something else. I will never get that 10 hours back, and for that I am truly sad.

It's nothing special in terms of being an FPS, there are a lot of little quirks and annoying things and there's a whole section in the middle that could've been taken out to make for a better game, but the atmosphere is superb. Worth playing.

For $22 in the half-marathon and I can't wait to get it. I've heard some great things about this game, and what's not to love about an amazing game for an amazing price-

The overall experience is ok but the in your face attacks can become frustrating as the creatures jump around you, that said it does cause a realistic sense of panic.

Pretty good game considering. Unique concept which is pretty cool compared to some of the modern reused ideas that dominate now. Few glitches but nothing too major, campain is long enough and plenty of difficultly levels to choose from. Short laod time is pretty sweet as is the loading screen which shows your progress through the game.

I think with this game the developers focused more on creating a realistic immersive environment and less on making a storyline that's actually interesting. The nuclear apocalypse set up has been used before and it has been used better.
