The movie was amazingly clear, except for the bits it warned about in the written intro. Very slightly disconcerting having German and English subtitles, but I soon got over that. My daughter also enjoyed it. (Though she would definitely preferred the Giorgio Moroda soundtrack!)

Is a must watch for film buffs
I remember seeing this movie with English dialog a long time ago. This version is silent, with German subtitles in a very large typeface. The are a few words of English text underneath, but the are often obscured by the larger German. The film is a masterpiece, but hard to watch as presented.
Now more or less restored from re-found footage (some found in New Zealand) this epic 1920's masterpiece from Fritz Lang can be more or less seen as it was meant too be back in 1927. Before it was cut by moral censors.
Metropolis inspired so much from Star Wars, Terminator, Blade Runner and The Matrix. Plus if anyone has played Final Fantasy 7 it looks much like Midgar.
An amazing DVD that offers the restored version of Fritz Lang's once lost masterpiece. The first true Sci-Fi epic, ‘Metropolis’ has (like many silent films) an oddly simple and, admittedly, somewhat predictable storyline that somehow overcomes the drawbacks that this entails by visual overload of amazing Futuristic-Deco architecture and by being just simply captivating both in cinematography and character and story development. A must-have for any true fan of Classic Cinema or Sci-Fi fan who wish to see the film that defined the genre.
