"Not bad, but not amazing..."

Fans of Mortal Kombat and DC Comics will get a real kick, excuse the pun, out of playing MK vs. DCU.

There are fan favourites for both sides, such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu-Kang, Sonya for Mortal Kombat and Batman, Superman, The Green Lantern and The Joker for DCU. So, if you're fan of either side there should be a character you can enjoy.

Firstly, the arcade mode is exactly what you would expect. You fight through characters till you get to the boss. The endings themselves are just a set storyboard picture with a rather random explanation read to you. Which left me rather perplexed and with more questions than answers to the outcome of the fight.

Which is where the Story Mode really shines for this game. There are 2 paths you can take the MK way and, you guessed it, the DCU path. Both stories intertwine and there are achievements for completing both story arcs. What makes this nice is that it isn't storyboards with a voice over, but rather in-game engine with voice actors. So you feel more engrossed than the Arcade Mode's rather lame endings.

Versus and Online are both present and playing with a friend is always fun. There are Lobby Matches and they provide people to play with rather easily, but if you are trying to find a Ranked Match, you will be disappointed at the lack of opponents unfortunately.

If you are looking for Fatalities and Brutalities, yes, they are present in this game.

Also, there are Test Your Might challenges on some levels, where you must hit the buttons in rapid succession to reduce damage on yourself or press more damage onto your opponent.

As well as Free Fall Kombat and Close Kombat. The first being when you knock an opponent over or through the edge of the arena and the latter initiated by you or the opponent. Close Kombat involves hitting buttons to inflict damage and if your opponent manages to hit the same button as you, the counter. In Free Fall Kombat, you do the same but if they hit the same button you will switch place and all the damage is placed on the person losing party.

So, the graphics are not terrible, nor the musical score. The fighting engine plays and feels like Mortal Kombat. If you're a Dead or Alive or Virtua Fighter fan, you may feel this doesn't live up to your standards.

But for a good price, this game is great fun to play with a friend and worth a play through.

"Not the best Mortal Kombat game"
4 stars"

So this isn't the best Mortal Kombat game but makes a strong debut onto the current gen.

Theres an awesome selection of characters, 22 in all. Midway have chosen the best 11 from both sides and put them into deadly Mortal Kombat.

Theres a few new game features like Klose Kombat and Test Your Might. By pressing RB in grappling range your characters will engage in Klose Kombat, this involves the attacker pressing one of the punch or kick buttons while the defender tries to match the buttons to counter them. Test Your Might happens only on specific arenas but you can see which ones do as you choose them. Test your might involve you kicking your opponent against the wall and pushing him through several walls, the attack mashs the pinch and kick buttons to increase damage, while the defender does the same but to decrease damage.

There is a very limited range of game types, just story, arcade and practice. There is also an online feature but I have yet to try it.

There is a story and you can play through as the Mortal Kombat characters or the DC characters. It involves one of the new gameplay features “Rage”. Basically the DC world and the Mortal Kombat world are merging and rage is affecting everyone to start fighting with each other and both sides are trying to find out why. It's definitely interesting and the voice acting isn't too bad.

DLC has been promised but with Midway going under the chance of this ever happening are pretty slim.

Graphics are pretty average, the characters in the cutscenes look great but the backgrounds are pretty drab in some places. Also the fatalities aren't what they used to be, Midway toned them down to make the age rating lower, so good-bye excessive blood and crazy fatalities.

Overall I give it a 4/5 there were some nice new gameplay features but overall there isn't much replay value aside from multiplayer.

I am really into fighting games and I love it when they merge two very different old-school games. There is heaps to do in this exciting fighting world and all of your favorite characters are in it. The only thing better than a good game is a great game and I think the price is well worth the fun I have had.

brought this game for my husband who is a mortal kombat fan. this game has brought so much joy into our family…easy for kids to play as well. The game features a story mode, which for the first time in fighting games history is actually really good and well written.Awesome graphics!!

9/10!!!

Nothing special about this one. Was quite dissapointed as I had some amazing reviews from friends. Bought the game and its just a basic 1v1 with a bunch of moves and specials. Nothing out of the ordinary and not overly exciting. Can only play for 15min bursts at a time.

"Mortal Kombat..."

First things first…I unlocked 4 achievements by playing my first match.

I wondered a long time about this title. After purchasing, I haven't looked back. It is a very good fighting game and the story mode (slighty cheese tasting) can be played by both sides, Mortal Kombat and DCU. I really like the combos that you can do on Mortal Kombat, and the awesome special attacks that arent hard to pull off 90% of the time.

5 stars- I enjoyed campaign, still enjoying multiplayer.

"super zeros meet mk"

2/10 – Very unattractive gameplay, the online good thing about the game was the deep story mode of the DC Universe characters and the MK ones. Other than that the online is awful and the gameplay is like trying to catch a ball with no hands.

The game is appeal at the start, i admit i was blown away seeing Batman face up to Sub-zero. But that soon dies off. MK would have been better off if they done a crossover with Killer instinct or a comic which doesnt mind voilence.. TOP CROW would be good with THE DARKNESS etc.

A great fighting game with excellent graphics, fast loading times, great characters and awesome story. Most of the characters are available from the start with only 2 unlockables. A great storyline with lots of replay value. Interesting and fun special moves to use and combat and great fatalities to use after you win. Controls are simple and easy to use and combat can range from easy to tricky depending on what mode you choose.

MK vs DC Universe features a great cast of characters that look good and have decent move-sets, but the ultra-cheesy storyline and lack of diverse and interesting game modes let it down. This is an entertaining game but it won't hold your attention for long.

"a good game for its genre"
4 stars"

Well it's not the best game in it's genre but it's really good.

There is rage, a lot of different moves for each character, a lot of good characters to chose from and the way their stories connect at the end is wicked – making this games plot awesome.

You also get to have a good look at the characters and a good description. The graphics are realistic to the last detail – making this a hell of a game to play.
