It all started with a crazy idea, to do an endurance challenge that would test me to the limits, to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats. I am not an athlete or a cycling expert but just an average runner who is reasonably fit, but probably half a stone overweight. This book focuses on my experience of doing a supported solo ride, for Prostate Cancer UK. The book is divided into these sections: before the ride (which includes tips on training, planning and preparations), the ride (which is a journal of the journey), after the ride (practicalities and feelings), A Long and Winding Road - the lessons from my big cycling adventure, Epilogue: The Jonathan Curwen Memorial ride around Wales, maps of the ride and photos of the ride. This book is not intended to be an encyclopaedia of knowledge on Land's End to John O'Groats but is hopefully interesting, practical and perhaps useful for ordinary people (like me) considering this challenge. It could inspire others to do something similar and/or provide practical tips on how to go about it. This was a major physical and mental challenge and I gave myself only 9 weeks to prepare - hence this was my personal Everest.All proceeds from the book will be donated to Prostate Cancer UK and The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.
