Myanmar's transition from a military state to one which is undergoing rapid reforms pursuant to elections in 2010 based on a formal constitution, and the seating in Parliament in 2012 of the country's prominent dissident leader of the National League for Democracy, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, requires concerted analysis of the underlying dynamics which precipitated this transition. This book unravels the intricacies of this new turn in the strategic alliances of Myanmar, and assesses the future likelihood of the democratic reforms continuing under both indigenous Myanmar tutelage and international encouragement.
