Description

Excerpt from Practical Poultry Breeder and Feeder, or How to Make Poultry Pay Y object in writing the first edition of this book was to give, in as few words as possible, such plain and practical information as would enable anyone who had little or no idea of poultry, and only the smallest accommodation, to keep fowls and make them pay well, thus combining pleasure and profit both in towns and country. I am glad to say the information contained in my book has been eagerly sought after; in fact, so much so, that three editions were sold at the end of last year. In this country for many years past new-laid eggs and poultry have been merely luxuries for the rich, many of our working population never obtaining these delicacies; and to those few who have, they have been given in times of sickness by some charitable person. I am, however, glad to say that this kind of thing is fast giving way, and since the first publication of my little work many thousands have indulged not only in eating the eggs and poultry, but have derived a certain amount of enjoyment from their live birds. There are many thousands of people keep poultry now who formerly thought it an impossibility to keep a few birds in confinement profitably.
