I haven't played any of the PoP:TFS (Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands) games in the past, apart from the 1989 original but recently had a nagging to try something different from all the MMO and FPS games I've currently been spending most of my precious gaming time on.

Choosing PoP:TFS was a good choice and I fell right into the game following the in game help as you jump around, clamber along walls and fight off enemy bad guys.

Starting out the game is simple. You quickly become involved in hanging from ledges, wall running and jumping and how some of the more simple puzzle aspects of the game work. Once the game progresses further into the story your character is given the ability to use other special powers the first of which is the power to freeze the flow of water. Using this ability slows water down to a point where it becomes solid and due to being solid this creates a new helping hand or obstacle for the Prince.

The use of this water system and the other abilities you gain further along the story make for a great challenge some times when forced to use them in conjunction with the other abilities. Imagine your running up a solid brick wall leaping out over a death defying drop as you head toward a huge waterfall with a water spout oozing behind it. You freeze the water too fast and you slam into a solid wall of water and plummet to your death. However if you time things right, you hit the waterfall passing through to the other side a little wet then quickly solidify the water around you, freezing the waterfall behind and the spout in front allowing you to grab hold, swing swiftly around it and follow suit with a Somersault after you let go, landing to your feet on the safe ledge opposite your beginning point.

Sorry I got carried away. Aside from these great puzzles and skill based sections where timing is essential and speed and precision a huge benefit – the combat system is fun. As some reviews have already stated you can pass through most of the game with the simple button mashing of the attack in the direction of the enemy. But I found a great amount of fun within the system they made. Simple attacks were a filler for all the fun things you can do. For example you can leap on an enemies shoulders and from there quickly decide to do either a bounding attack, springing off their shoulders and slicing them several different ways. Or do a kick/stun attack, again springing up and kicking them from the battle causing their friends to tumble if they're in the way. I found it great fun, the combat system is simple but certainly not lacking if you love to play with your foe before you slice them up!

The games time rewind is still there and comes in handy at those bad decisions and even while in combat. They have also included a talent tree system in the game. You gain points from killing enemies and after killing so many you can spend these points minor upgrades to your attacks your health pool, special abilities like more time reverse more water freeze time and so on. It makes for some minor replay-ability but not a huge amount. This is my only dislike about the game, and other games like it. They never seem to have much to do once you finish up.

Long story short The game is overall fun and if you've got the spare cash lying around and want something different from the other game styles then its a nice change. I would love to see Ubisoft make a level creator or something for PoP. It could go a long way with player created content.

Thanks for reading!

"OK"

The game doesn't take that long to finish, and even with the Challenge mode I can't see people playing it again.

"Repetitiveness, no way!"
2 stars"

I found that the game was repetitive, with the same swinging and hanging and jumping, I wouldn't recommend the buy (well at that price anyway)

"'New Game play' 'Old Problems""
4 stars"

While I have played most of the prince of Persia games and they have all been fun and given something extra each time. There has still been the few little problems. For example when your trying to make a jump from one place to another and the camera won't let you see where you are jumping to or how far it is. There are still some little problems with jumping and running (the prince can run really slow and in one of the puzzles I was just running back and forth). The combat is interesting however as you get to fight a lot of enemies with your new powers which are mostly controlling the elements. Pretty cool. All in all if you want to have a game which is rewarding when you finish puzzles or a particularly hard bit of free-running. The combat is good, however this game is held back by just a few little problems. While these don't destroy the experience it does make you grind your teeth a little bit.

Although this was the first Prince of Persia game I've ever picked up, it definitly had me hooked from the start. The story in Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands starts the game off with war, summoning an evil army, and, of course, a satirical main character who always adds comedic value to the game throughout, who is sent by his father to learn how to rule an army from his brother.

My only pet peeve in this game is that the movement system in it is exactly like the Assassin's Creed series. If you knwo how to move about in Assassin's Creed, then this game should be no problem – except that you can't rewind time every time you fall in Assassin's Creed.

"Too easy and way too short"

Even though this game aint that bad, I found it way to easy and WAY short. I completed the game in only 3hrs (less the FMV's) never died and had almost fulled the power-up tree.

It plays like Assassins Creed crossed with God of war with all the wall running and wall jumping and stage puzzles you do and some of the power-ups you get can be fun but that all makes the game to easy.

So if you are after a time killer game that wont take much effort to complet then this title would be the one to give a go, other than that… MEH!

I hadn't played a Prince of Persia game since the original 2 on PC, and I found this to be disappointingly short.

In saying that it is still good fun.

There are a few parts that take more than one go, having to precisely time when to trigger a power and when to jump multiple times in a row is annoying when doing it, but gives you a sense of relief and accomplishment when you have completed it.

The sword play is a bit repetitive, doing the same moves over and over, but the final kills you can do are always fun. And I always enjoyed kicking someone off the balcony.

If you haven’t played a 3D platform game on xbox 360, try one of the Prince of Persia series, if you have then this is still good fun, just don’t have extremely high expectations.

"A worthwhile addition to the series"

I have played most of the previous Prince of Persia titles and enjoyed most of them. The Forgotten Sands was a lot of fun. Lots of enemies on screen and simplified fighting controls meant a frantic twitch style fight. The new water freezing power was nice and added a level of complexion to the puzzles.

Great game not as much fighting as I aspected. Alot of bang on timing is needed as u have to jump around to get anywere makes for fun times in sum stages. Over all a must have for collection
