Description

Excerpt from R. L. Polk and Co's Boise City and Ada County Directory, 1905, Vol. 3: Containing a Complete Alphabetical List of Business Firms, Corporations and Private Citizens; A Miscellaneous Directory of City, County, State and United States Officers; Churches, Public and Private Schools, Secret and Benevolent Societies, Etc., Etc The same general arrangement has been carried out in this work as in our previous editions. A revised and up - to - date Street Guide of Boise will be found on pages 15 to 18; pages 19 to 38 contain a full and complete roster of the City. County and State Officers, United States Officers lo cated in Boise; Post Office Department, banks and bankers, churches, clubs and societies, colleges and schools, libraries, secret and benevolent organizations, etc., etc. Following this (pages 39 to 308) is the alphabetical list of names of all the residents, business and professional men, corpora tions, etc., located in Boise. Directories of the towns of Highland, Hurt, Meridian, Orchard and Star will be found on pages 309 to 311. A list of the land owners of Ada County begins on page 312 and ends on page 345. Pages 346 to 388 are devoted to a classified business directory, in which all lines of business and the professions are listed under appropriate headings. This directory contains by actual count 6255 names (not including the names of firms, corporations, death or removal notices). This is increase of 808 names over the number contained in our last directory; and using the lowest multiple in vogue in Western cities, estimate the present population of Boise - including South Boise and the immediate suburbs - to be 't4, o74. We are pleased to mate the continued and increasing prosperity of Boise and the rapid growth of its commercial interests. This has been especially noticeable during the past three or four years. The advancement of the city during that time is evidenced by the increased number of names in the City Directory.
