Resident Evil 7 is a hearkening back to the original games in the series,
with its strong focus on classic Survival Horror elements such as inventory
management, exploration, clue finding and puzzle solving. Don't confuse these
elements as being a reluctance to keep up with the times however, as RE7 still
manages to keep gameplay fresh with its adoption of elements that are found in
contemporary Horror games (such as Outlast), including the use of first person
perspective, and familiar narrative / plot structures.
The derelict house setting, its grotesque characters, jump-scare tactics,
realistic sound design and carefully designed environments are guaranteed to
frighten even the most veteran of Horror game players.
Graphically, the game looks beautiful on my PS4 Pro, taking full advantage of
HDR and 4k resolution. The art direction is both gorgeous, and utterly gross (in
the best way possible).
This is by far my favourite entry in the series, and has me hooked to my
console, craving the next scare and plot twist!
