Description

Robert Baron (1630-1658) has too readily been dismissed as a mere plagiarist, on the strength of the borrowings in his youthful poems. He makes a more serious claim for attention with his chamber drama Mirza, A Tragedy (circa. 1655). This is a learned work of considerable literary maturity, a serious -- if flawed -- attempt to engage with an unfamiliar culture.
