Tras viajar a Espana y matar a un presunto santo, el personaje regresa a Puerto Rico y febril emprende su propio apostolado. Su intervencion, cabe notar, emula la del otro en Sevilla en tanto presume el verdadero santo es el: veraz, abnegado y templado. Su personalidad caotica, empero, denota un alma fragmentada en actitudes dubitativas, egoistas y desquiciadas.

Humberto Mendez Charneco nacio en Moca, Puerto Rico, en 1941. Publico su novela La esperanza en el ayer de la colina en 1993, seguida del drama musical El velorio de reyes en 1994. Les sucedieron las novelas El sueno en el 2000 y Votivas al limbo en 2002."
