"After seeing a Gameplay Demo at Digital NatioNZ..."
5 stars"

I was lucky enough to checkout the gameplay demo of Stick of Truth this weekend and it looks like this game has the potential to do for T.V tie in games what Arkham has done for Superheroes games.

Gameplay is simple turnbased with a very similar feel to older Final fantasy games but with a typical Southpark twist. Many of the shows in jokes were included in various forms (Farts as incendiary attacks, Dildos as swords) but was appeared ot have been done well enough to not take anything away from the combat.

The general gameplay allowed for options in routes to be taken and takes a page of fallouts book by allowing players to engage enemies from afar to avoid battles (at the expense of not gaining EXP). Battles themselves improved on typical RPG formula by adding timing to the attacks, allowing you to do more damage based on times press of certain buttons. The ability to defend yourself when being attacked was a nice addition and gave a more rounded feeling to battle.

The standout point was by far the art direction and attention the script. The game looks and sounds like a Southpark episode with the only distinguishable difference being the layout of the screen. Graphics were on par with recent Rayman games with the fluidity of animations (its Southpark I realise this isn’t hard) but the whole things is tied together nicely with in game voiceovers which you can tell have being written by Parker and Stone.

Southpark: The Stick of truth may not be out till after the release of the new Gen of Consoles but It is going to be worth picking up all the same.
