The lack of Spelling ability on the part of pupils is one of the most frequent topics of discussion among teachers. Not only in the elementary school, but in high school and college, hundreds of misspelled words occur almost daily in the written work of students. These are not found to be among the comparatively difficult and unusual words, but are confined very largely to simple and necessary ones. In the light of these facts it seemed wise to undertake some investigations and to make some measurements of the spelling ability of the pupils in the Des Moines schools.
