"Burnout was good...Split second is what burnout wanted to be."
5 stars"

Ok lets make this review easy.

Pretend your in a movie studio. Almost everything you see, WILL blow up. Now, hop in a sports car. You drive, You set explosions, You try to win.

Split second is mindblowing. Nothing beats changing the track by dropping some huge skyscraper onto the other drivers, while you casually sneak off to the left to grab first place.

there are 12 huge campaign modes, so single player is a drivers dream come true. Im totally loving playing this game every second. It feels good triggering an explosion and watching 4 drivers go down from a sliding boat, dropping bridge, exploding rock face etc etc etc.

best arcade racer of this year- 5 stars

"A hell of a lot of fun"

While it's certainly not a perfect experience, it's certainly a fun one. Power-plays are a fun and inventive spin on the arcade racing genre and drifting is definitely a huge aspect of the skill and enjoyment of the game.

My gripes are few – namely you can't crash your opponents apart from taking them out with the power-plays which is frustrating and the AI can be annoying as they always seem to mystically catch up to you at the last second.

BUT the graphics are great, soundtrack is solid and suitably epic, controls are tight and the levels (although few in number) are inventive and certainly a lot of fun in single or multiplayer. With those few flaws in mind, I heartily recommend Split/Second for fans of racing games such as Burnout, Flat-out or Need for Speed

"Best arcade racer since Burnout"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Split/Second is a high-speed, adrenaline-packed arcade racer, probably the best of its kind since the last Burnout game.

The highlight here is the ability to use powerplays to take out your opponents – which can be anything from collapsing an overbridge in front of them, to collapsing an entire building and re-routing the track.

The game creates a fantastic feeling of speed, even more so when you're in first place and attempting to dodge everything your opponents can throw at you.

My only criticism would be the AI, which can at times be pretty unforgiving, although nevertheless still beatable with the right tactics and sometimes a bit of luck.

In addition the tracks do repeat a little bit, and a few extra tracks would have been nice. Having said that, learning the tracks (and the powerplays) is a big advantage.

The online multiplayer is also solid and seems to run smoothly even when connecting to games from down here in NZ.

Most definitely worth a look for anyone looking for a decent arcade-style racer.
