Description

Since its 1848 beginning, Stockton has been a geographical and symbolic epicenter for prosperity and good fortune. Beginning as a Gold Rush-era supply depot, this city became the nexus of an agricultural empire and a center for industrial innovation with international markets.

Author Biography:

Daniel Kasser and Amanda Zimmerman, from the University of the Pacific's Department of Visual Arts, share images from such collections as the Bank of Stockton, Haggin Museum, San Joaquin County Historical Museum, the University of the Pacific Special Archives Collection, and other archives. These images explore and illustrate Stockton's metropolitan expansion from the waterfront, challenges to citizens and city planners, and today's urban renaissance that is redefining Stockton's future.
