The Duke at the outset imagines that his son is uneasy at the prevalence of revolutionary notions, and reassures him by asserting that the common sense of the country and the fifty-pound clause wfll carry us through. But when Tancred goes on with such declarations as I wish I knew what was good and great, I would struggle to accomplish it, and asks, Is there such a thing as religious truth?
