First, the minis are high quality and have a good level of customisation, they also come with instructions which is always good. Second, the game is simple but detailed, easy to learn but encourages tactical play. If you're looking for a new game to play that won't break the bank, then this is the game for you.

"Great value for money and great game"

For those that are interested in Japanese history (which I am) this is a great game. The miniatures are not the best on the market, but are still good quality. The game itself has enough unique elements to make it stand out (my favourite being the turn order function). The two main factors, other than price, that made this a yes for me were: rules that are very easy to learn and teach; and short game length. Overall, the best thing the Test of Honour box set has going for it is it’s value for money: two full armies and (almost) everything you need to play (you’ll also need a bag to draw tokens from and a tape measure). Great game!

"Like the style"

Like the look. Rules are simple. Only gave 3 stars for a simple reason, I would've liked slightly bigger figures and no guide to a game plan. I realise you can download core rules, but could only fine game guide in Spanish, or French. I got in contact with developers and have sent out. Which a person should not have to do.

"Great value for money set - but miniatures a disappointment"

I bought the boxed-set on special and it is certainly great value for money: 30+ miniatures, cardstock counters and top-down scenery to get started, playing cards and plastic bases. The rules seem easy to learn and look to provide an entertaining skirmish level game in an exotic setting (and one that is sadly under-used in wargaming IMHO).

However, the minis are on the “small” side of the 28mm scale and whether it is the moulds that are getting old, or the original design, the level of detail is not as high-quality as I would hope – these are plastics so it may be that metal sculpts in the same series would be better. Especially when I compare them with the Gripping Beast plastics I have just assembled (which are admittedly at the “chunky”, heroic end of the 28mm scale), these minis are a little lacklustre. They have also proved so far one of the most frustrating builds I have come across – difficult and fiddly bits to put together and quite a bit of filling will be required. I am willing to admit that this might be down to my lack of skill with modelling and once painted, they may well buff up nicely.

It's a shame. As I said, this is a great period to play and the rules seem fun: simple but with enough potential for entertaining play. When I ordered the set it was with a lot of anticipation but I am pretty sure that unless others have had a different experience, I won't be ordering any booster sets to flesh out the factions.

"Great game, good models, lacking instructions."

The game rules are simple, fast and easily-understood. The custom dice create an interesting dynamic and look very cool. The models are very detailed, but the instructions are a big problem. There are a lot of parts not mentioned, or shown incorrectly.
