A long time ago when Basil's children were small, they were enjoying a ski-ing holiday in Austria. One night there was a big storm but the next morning was bright and sunny. Basil was ski-ing with Jeremy (who was just six years old) when they found a small twig that had broken away from its tree. This small twig looked just like the drawings you will find throughout this book. There could, of course, be no other name for him than 'Twig' and from that day on Basil used to make up stories about all the wonderful adventures that Twig and Jeremy enjoyed.
