Most sectors of Christianity observe it also as the anniversary of the birth of the Christian Church. In some of the later Protestant traditions many of the ancient Christian festivals have 'been dropped, the reason usually being given that these were pagan festivals taken over by Christendom. Christmas is said to be one of these. But there are more recent manifestations with respect to Pentecost - even to the ex tent that some denominations of Christians now designate themselves as Pentecostals.
