Description

Excerpt from The Church of England Pulpit, and Ecclesiastical Review, Vol. 30: July to December, 1890 Acquaint thyself with God and be at peace, ' thereby hall good come to thee. - j01s mm. 21. Dare say you have noticed - no doubt it has been Often pointed out to' you - that the arrangement Of Sunday services in the Prayer Book is such, that each fact in the Christian Creed is properly presented for our consideration in its turn. The Fatherhood of God is perhaps rather assumed throughout, than presented to us for separate acceptance. There is nothing that is essentially Christian in the statement, I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. Every religion starts from that. It is fundamental and axiomatic. We don't argue about it. We accept it. We don't attempt to explain it. We are here in the midst of this busy world. Matter, force, intelligence are all about us.' We are part and parcel of it all. As an intelligent bit of creation we are of course interested in the plan, the purpose, and the destiny Of that in which our being is involved.
