"Modding Community is the saving grace!"
5 stars"

Seriously the vanila oblivion is a severly overated game, it has so many flaws that the gaming masses and journalists seem to ignore.

When it first came out I hated it.

However, some 3 years down the track with the help of a very dedicated modding community this game has been turned into one of the greatest games of all time.

Make sure you mod the lame bits out of the game as soon as oyu get it. To give you an Idea the base game is about 6 gig's and I have added a little over that in mod's.

Some recomendations.

Fcom convergeance (OOO,Warcry, frans, MMM…) Deadly reflexes. Quarls texture pack. (if you have a high end computer) Beautiful people Natural habitat line of sight mods for no popup (needs very high end pc) Supreme magika and Midas magic. Streamline 3.1

"Very Good"
4 stars"

TES IV: Oblivion I was watering at the mouth when this game hit the shelves in South Africa (2006) before coming to New Zealand. R350 later and almost 80hours over 3 months and the reality dawned that it just might have been a premature climax. Well layed out with a good balance of skills and magic, beautifal sceneary and realist environment make this a real 3d world to get lost in. But the downturn to the Graphic Splendor is the AI – not that great, things like silently killing someone in one part of the city and suddenly guards from Palace on the other side of the city come running to inprison you, the same conversations carried out and you soon realise that the AI is really just strings with multiple options and a roll of dice determines the NCP decisions. Also the bloody Gate to Oblivion really force you to complete the main quest to go and injoy the world as Tamril. I have yet to play the expansions but im hoping that things have been balanced out better. I was also disappointed that i could join any guild and rise the ranks and freely join another guild opposed and rise the ranks. Id highly recommend TES III Morrowind first but Oblivion has serious potential and well worth its price.

"The Good Bad and not so Ugly"
4 stars"

The good Oblivion is a good game it has more content and almost bottomless well of content Provided you have a good PC (see below) it makes you itch to explore the lovely medieval setting and getting involved with the guilds and also the freedom to explore makes it a great game. Also there are custom mods which are great fun and easy to load

The bad it does lack in some areas though and should be improved. Like the mediocre combat system, which has serious flaws, and unbalances, which are sometimes annoying. Like the strange ability to run backwards strafe the same speed as running forwards and lack of jumping animations is quite sad making it easy to exploit the simple hack block then hack again combat system. Also the combat techniques are hard to implement and some are of no use at all or even the whole skill set. Also minor bugs that most are fixed with the patch thankfully.

The ugly To run the game successfully and to really enjoy the graphics most people have to improve their computers to really expensive ones. Also the unique Lvling system is a blessing and a curse because it makes it always challenging but takes the fun out of exploring. It is peculiar that later on the game where you fight outlaws who are more richer (with their equipment) than most of the shop keepers in the towns put together

But I still love the games and there are mods to fix the most serious flaws. 4/5

"Mod it and it's awesome."

Terrific game, but admittedly not perfect. I would seriously recommend looking at the mods that are available to deal with whatever issues you may have. A favorite of mine fixes the weird way the chase camera swings around in 3rd person. You may also have heard of the “scaling” issue. That's not as bad as some people say. What it means is the monsters you encounter and items you find are determined by what level you are. This is good in one way because it keeps combat challenging, but bad in others. For instance it takes some of the fun out of exploring. There's no point exploring the far and remote parts of the map in hopes of finding some cool weapon or bit of armour, because you're only going to find something appropriate to your level.

I also didn't like the pop-up journal that made solving quests rather too easy, or the fact that there's no alternative to the “fast travel” feature (I recommend doing some leg work or you'll miss a few quests). Other than that though it's a great game. It's vast and amazingly detailed. The design and look and feel of the game is great, and the combat is a great improvement over Morrowind (especially if you fight with a one handed weapon and shield). The music is beautiful and the voice acting is good. And there's just so much to do! Seriously, I've been playing for weeks, for hours and hours a day and I'm still going. Great if you're like me and have more free time than money.

So if you're at all interested and have a good computer (seriouly good if you want it to look anything like the screenshots) then I can't imagine you'd be disappointed. But remember… mods.

"Reassurance"
5 stars"

Don't let the previous reviews fool you, this is an amazing game. In this game you can truely do anything, whether it is following the main story line, doing quests for any of the guilds or running through the wilderness to find dungeons and caves that await you!

This games' graphics are truely spectacular as one of the best graphical games released to date!

Highly recommended to everyone!

"Now where near as good as I hope"
2 stars"

I was thoroughly disappointed in this game for the PC. I am thinking maybe it is more fun on xbox or whatever other platforms it is out on. As far as PC I found the gameplay very disappointing. I really wanted to be able to enjoy the game, just did not do it for me. It is off my harddrive forever.

"The Best Game ever!!"
4 stars"

I loved the game! It took me 4 months(!) before I could convince my parents to get me a new computer to play it on. The storyline isn't very good and it takes a while before you can go up levels but overall its an awesome game

An absolutely immense game, I simply cannot recommend it enough. Beware though that you need a very powerful PC to get the truly good graphics.

"WOW!"
1 stars"

Wow,what a boring game, after giving this game a go half a dozen times over the last 8 months,its gone in the rubbish. I think this is definitely the most overrated game I've ever played, its very buggy, sure its a big expansive world…but its just the same stuff cut and paste over and over, the dungeons all look the same with minor variances, the characters are weak, and they look bad,the countyside is as rehashed as the dungeons, dialogue with gaurds/other people is inane,I can't believe people rave about this game.

"A True Epic Adventure"

Well after all most 50 hours of gameplay, I felt it was sufficient enough to be able to write a review. I have done so much in that time: 200 days have passed, I own two houses, have completed almost 80 quests including the main quest, I've discovered over 80 locations, killed hundreds of creatures, murdered over a dozen people, have risen the ranks of the Dark Brotherhood, the Theives Guild and the Arena to become their rightful leader – and this is just the beginning! This game is simply fantastic and an overhaul of the last episode. The quests are very creative, often forming their own mini-stories within the game. The main quest is short, but you often have much to do. While this is unfortunate, the main quest really makes you feel as though you are a part of some grand-epic LOTR story (yes, Sean Bean is there!). The NPCs in the game really make the world come to life, doing their own thing 24/7, and each having their own unique personalities (though unfortunately the voices often sound the same). The graphics are an immense overhaul which require a heavy system (I have an ATI Radeon X1900 and have some problems, usually during the area loads). The breadth and scope of this game can be overwealming to some, but your character's story just seems to never end which makes it have great replay value.

"Pretty good"
3 stars"

After playing this game for a while I was pretty happy. The graphics are very pretty and the sheer amount that is possible is mind blowing! I wandered away from the main storyline for a while and did lots of odd jobs and guild stuff. However, upon returning to the main quest I completed the game waaay to quickly for my liking. It just seemed the main story was too short, and less than epic. Don't get me wrong, the story is very cool, but it just seemed like they had put so much content elsewhere and not in the main story.

"Story is great, but..."
3 stars"

I love the story and char creation, but middle range PC owners beware, this game so far will not run well on top FX card and other better cards seem to have some FPS issues.
