Description

Excerpt from The Etiology and Pathology of Grouse Disease, Fowl Enteritis: And Some Other Diseases Affecting Birds Having been engaged for the last five years in collecting data as to the etiology and pathology of grouse disease, I find that the time has arrived when I am enabled to give a coherent account of the Subject; the number of grouse, dead or dying naturally from the disease, which I have dissected, and which were derived from different parts of England and Scotland, sent to me during several years through the kindness of the Editor of the Field, is very considerable, as will be fully referred to later; the number of cultivations from the grouse, the number of experiments with cultivations on birds and mammals has been sufficiently large to enable me to draw definite conclusions as to the nature of those cultivations. To the Editor of the Field, and through him to many gentlemen, both in England and Scotland, interested in grouse, my best thanks are due for the valuable assistance which I received.
