Description

Excerpt from The Genealogy of the Makepeace Families in the United States: From 1637 to 1857 And from all the researches made, there cannot be a doubt that all those who bear the name of Makepeace, in this country, derive their origin from him. The leading motive of the writer in publishing this little book, is, that the result of his researches may not be lost; but that some one of the name, hereafter, who may feel an interest in continuing the undertaking now left so imper feet, may find in it some assistance which will be useful to him in preparing a more complete and perfect genealogy of the Makepeace family. From none of the early records consulted, has the writ been able to ascertain from what part of England thi Thomas Makepeace came. The name of Makepeace, how ever, appears in several collections of English history and biography, in the counties of Warwickshire, Worcester shire, and Sussex, at various periods as far back as the mid dle of the fifteenth century.
