Description

Lillian Garis was an American author who wrote hundreds of books of juvenile fiction between 1915 and the early 1940's. She used the pseudonyms Margaret Penrose and Laura Lee Hope when writing for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. The Girl Scout Pioneers is one of several books written for girls centered around girl scouting. The stories always reinforce the ideals of scouting and the gender roles for women. The characters are Caucasian girls from middle class homes. Other books in this series include "The Girl Scouts at Bellair" and "The Girl Scouts at Sea Crest"
