I would recommend you buy this. A friend is buying this for me but it is such an amazing film and for the low discounted price you wouldn't find it any cheaper elsewhere.
The Hobbit is an amazing further look at the world of J. R. R. Tolkien in the eyes of Peter Jackson.
Great cast and Barry Humphries does an amazing role as the troll king.
If you are unsure on buying this because you haven't seen the LOTR series then it doesn't matter. Because The Hobbit is the story before the Lord of the Rings series.
