Description

August 1485. The last Plantagenet King of England is about to meet his end... ...but what if everything turned out differently? A young scholar is presented to Richard III on the eve of the Battle of Bosworth, just as a devastating plague takes hold of the kingdom. In a distant, unfamiliar land a warrior faces his greatest fear, having lost all knowledge of who he is or what he might be fighting for. Two stories, half a world apart. Two very different journeys toward a shared destiny. The Last Plantagenet is an alternate history novel, telling two complementary stories set in a world where the end of the Middle Ages is also the end of the world as we know it. With the Sweating Sickness taking hold of the Old World before Columbus ever had chance to set foot in the New, the flowering of the Renaissance gives way to a desperate battle for survival. As the kingdom falls apart, England's foremost alchemists try to preserve the last remnants of the Plantagenet line, with only dreams and visions to guide them. Set against this is the story of a different battle, this time against the relentless advance of an implacable enemy. The bloodthirsty Mexica, from whose plumed warrior elite one might expect neither mercy nor surrender, have their own doomsday to prepare for. Can the key to the survival of a whole empire rest with the lost memories of just one timid little man?
