"Things are rarely black and white"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Geralt the Witcher lives in a world where everything is shades of grey and everyone engages in political maneuvering. As a Witcher he tries to stay out of this but fails. The books are English transations of Polish originals. The tone of the book is very similar to the tone of the computer game, so I suppose the translators did an awesome job. The books are what I'd describe as “low fantasy”. The world is grimy, so are its people. Geralt in particular is complex and flawed, sometimes extremely observant, sometimes thick as a plank (especially regards romance). Very entertaining read, worth buying. A short read, however.

"Need to this book and the others"
5 stars"

If your a fan of the witcher games and the story that is Geralt of Rivia then this book and the others fill in a lot of details you don't get. Because of this it makes the game better because you have more understanding of the man that is Geralt.

"Very enjoyable read"

This book was a real pleasure to read. Being a collection of short stories, there isn't a single plotline, rather, it is a collection of stories of Geralt of Rivia's monster-hunting and problem solving as he travels from one town to the next.

Note that The Sword of Destiny is actually the book that follows this, though it was never officially translated to English and therefore The Blood of Elves is referred to as the second in bookstores. The Sword of Destiny has many translations by fans and can be found online easily.

"Didn't stop til it was all read"

A collection of short stories revolving around Geralt, and his Witcher life. First short throws you right into who Geralt is and what he does for a profession. Doesn't hold back when it comes to fighting, blood, and sex. Can't wait to order the next books.

"Loved it"

A great book if you are a fan of the games. It's more of a collection of short stories than one long one, which makes it an easy, casual read. Fills in a lot of the gaps in the games. If you like the games then the books are worth it, you'll get a lot more out of these if you are already familiar with the Witcher universe.

"Great companion to the Netflix series"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I usually read the book first, then watch the movie / TV programme. I didn’t actually realise The Witcher was based on a book – I only knew it was a computer game, one with which I’d never engaged – but after watching the series I realised I had to read the books. Those who’ve watched it on Netflix will recognise several episodes in this book; the others come from the second one in the series, a collection of novellas. Nowhere near as intricate or complex as A Song of Ice and Fire, this book was easily digested in just a couple of reading sessions – and I’m eager for more.

I didn't even know that there was a book for the witcher but it's amazing

"So far its good"

Seems to be a collection of short adventures but could turn out to be a larger story. I'm only getting through it slowly. A good view into the world of The Witcher and helps to fill in the story of the games too. If you're a Witcher fan, get these, they are worth it.

"Alright"

I like this book but in saying that i found it quite hard to get into, it jumped alot and made it difficult for me to stay in the story.

I realise that it was suppose to be written in that way but i much rather have a book that keeps me drawn to it, making it so i can't put it down and this wasn't one of them.
