Description

Excerpt from The Lounger's Common-Place Book, Vol. 1 of 2: Or Miscellaneous Collections in History, Criticisms, Biography, Poetry, and Romance Tim author of the following pages, 'which were originally published about the year 1790, was a medical gentleman, residing at Dover. That his mind was a sound one, though tinged with peculiar notions, is evident from the tone which pervades his writings; and the present edition is given to the world, from a strong feeling on the mind of the publisher that so much good sense and valuable information ought not to be lost. Some articles have been omitted, and others abridged or altered; but the majority stand as they were printed under the author's own superintendence. Some of the allusions to persons and events will scarcely, perhaps, now be understood; but such instances are rare, and when they do occur, enough.
