On the other hand, Haydn, osart, and, above all, Beethoven, have 0 ned for us the romantic domain of music in a manner of w ich the old authors had no notion, and the direction thus given to music has, in its turn, produced an abundance of musical means to which we are now so accustomed, that not to employ such a mine of wealth has become a perfect impossibility.
