The play bespoken by him for that evening was the merry comedy of the Provoked Husband. To oblige the Court, the play did not begin until half an hour after seven though to amuse the regular patrons of the drama, the first music was played an hour earlier. On this occasion the Dublin journal states there was a universal appearance of the nobility and gentry; the house was illumined with wax lights, their Graces were received with uncommon testimonies of joy, and the prologue was spoken by Sheridan.
