The most fertile and best cultivated parts of the province are - the Niagara district on the southern frontier; sections of the vast tract of country which, encompassed on three sides by the waters of the lakes Ontario, Erie, St. Clair, Hu ron (and its branches), forms a complete penin sula; and to the eastward, the country about the bay of Quinte, with the district of Prince Edward. Though the Niagara district, in common withthe rest, raises corn in abundance, it is, more essentially than any other, the orchard as well as nursery-ground of much of the neighbouring parts of the province; and in particular, a very large quantity of the fruit and vegetables con sumed annually in Toronto, is derived from thence. But fruit, and indeed provisions of every kind, in great abundance, find their way into Upper Canada from the United States, and are gene rally of a very good quality.
